SNS Nails

SNS SIGNATURE NAIL SYSTEM

If you know me, then you probably know I love getting my nails done (as most women do). Unfortunately I am not talented enough to do my own nails -they always come out looking like a five-year-old painted them- so I prefer getting them professionally done.

I've been a huge fan of Shellac since it came out, but now I find myself really liking the SNS system. SNS stands for Signature Nail System. I believe it's a fairly new technique since not a lot of nail salons offer it yet. Fortunately for me, I've found a good salon in Austin that does a great job with SNS.

The process of applying SNS is quite different from that of Shellac. After choosing your color, the nail technician will bring out the same color in powder form. They dip your nails individually into the powder and apply a thin sealant coat. Usually the tech will dip each nail 2-3 times before applying the final sealing shine. What's great about it, is that there are no UV lights involved, it looks natural, it's light yet durable, and it has Vitamin E and Calcium which help keep nails naturally healthy and strong.

I have also noticed it lasts a bit longer than Shellac, and won't peel off which is awesome because it minimizes the amount of times and trips I take going to the nail salon. I believe the price is about the same as Shellac (probably depends on your salon).

If you know of a salon near you that offers this, I recommend trying it out at least once to see if you like it.

Foundation Nation

I have had a lot of questions about my makeup products and tips, so I decided I would utilize this space to share some of my makeup secrets!

Below you can check out some of my products of choice. I like to try different products and see what works best for my skin. Keep in mind, everyone's skin is different. I tend to have oily/ combination skin, and these are the products that have seemed to work best with me. What I really like about these products is that depending on the occasion, you can use them for everyday wear, or evening and stage, they work pretty versatile for me.

Product 1
GIORGIO ARMANI: LUMINOUS SILK FOUNDATION
I was introduced to this product through a friend who is a makeup artist, and it has become one of my favorites for evening makeup. It goes on smooth and 'silky,' literally. It's not available everywhere unfortunately. I bought mine at a Nordstrom in California, and came back to Texas and tried to buy it at a Nordstrom here and they didn't carry it. (One of the only reasons I switch around with this foundation.) But, if you can get your hands on it, I definitely recommend it.

Product 2
THE PERFECT FACE: PICTURE PERFECT FOUNDATION

This foundation is probably my all-time-favorite foundation! The creator of this makeup line was my makeup sponsor when I was Miss Texas USA. Not because she was a sponsor of mine, but her line is really incredible. All of her products are top quality, and they look great on everyone. I use this foundation during the day, evening and on stage. (You can see why it's my favorite). Aside from this foundation being so versatile, the coverage is amazing, and I feel like my skin can breathe! I've used a lot of other stage makeup brands that feel so 'cake-y' and make your skin so oily that you can't wait to take it off. I really have never had that problem with this makeup. You can order it on TPFCOSMETICS.COM.
If you're ever in Houston, Texas, I recommend going in for a consultation or makeup lesson. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Product 3
LORAC: PORFECTION FOUNDATION
As I mentioned earlier, I tend to have oily/ combination skin, which brings me to this foundation by Lorac. It's oil-free, fragrance- free, and paraben-free.

Ummm....Why should I care? I don't even know what that means.

paraben |ˈparəben| nounChemistry any of a group of compounds used as preservatives in pharmaceutical and cosmetic products and in the food industry.

And if you still didn't get that....

Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in cosmetics and personal care products such as soap, moisturizers, shaving cream and underarm deodorant, according to the Food and Drug Administration. To get a bit science-y, parabens are esters (a compound formed from acid and alcohol) of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. The FDA says the most common are methylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben.

Companies use parabens to extend the shelf life of products and prevent growth of bacteria and fungi in, for instance, face cream. And that's good, right? Mold is essential to blue cheese, but who wants to smear her face with it?

Back to why I chose this...it's good for your skin and it looks great! I tend to use this foundation mostly during my daytime activities, and on occasion when I don't want to put something heavier on at night, and I can transition to night makeup looks with this foundation as well.
